Moments in Time
Some of the "stories" I have discovered along the way
MARY BRUGH 1742-1800
6 X GREAT GRANDMOTHER
It was very exciting when I discovered Mary was my 6x great grandmother. She was also the great grandmother of Isabella Stewart Gardner 1840-1924. Isabella was a leading American Art Collector and this painting of Mary is on display in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The museum is quite large and the painting was difficult to find, but find it we did eventually. I purchased a print and she is now hanging in our lounge too - keeping an eye on everyone.

ALICE CAHEN D'ANVERS 1876-1965
WIFE OF MY 2ND COUSIN 3X REMOVED
We share the same 4x great grandparents
I have always loved this Renoir painting - little did I know of the link to my family. The two girls are the d'Anver sisters Alice and Elisabeth. Alice in the pink dress was married to my 2nd cousin 3x removed Charles Vere Ferrars Townshend Major General CB DSO. When I continued researching the family, I discovered that Irene the older sister is also the subject of a Renoir painting. She married Moise de Camondo and they lived in Paris. Their house is now a beautiful museum which my daughter and I loved when we visited.

PATRICK MACKELLAR 1717-1778
5X GREAT GRANDFATHER
This is the house of General Patrick MacKellar. He was a military engineer in the British Army and was formative in the planning of the city of Es Castell (formerly Georgetown) in Menorca. His house is now a hotel (Son Granot) and i am looking forward to getting there one day and raising a glass to him whilst standing on the balcony looking out to the Mediterranean Sea.
